TWO new trucks fitted with Terex/Atlas Knuckle Boom cranes recently rolled off Piako Engineering's Morrinsville factory floor.
The first truck, a 4x2 260hp 6-speed Hino is now working for Don Chapman Builders from Morrinsville. Piako owner Colin Richardson says he outfitted the trucks with the NZH Hydraulics solution product package and the Terex/Atlas cranes both because he, as a long-time NZH customer has confidence in NZH products and because the customer requested it.
Owner of Don Chapman Builders, Don Chapman, says the new Hino took to the road and so far the light yet robust 135.2 A4 Terex/Atlas Knuckle Boom crane fitted on it has done its job like a true professional. The company bulids dairy sheds and the crane's job is to lift and put in place building material as well sheds and containers used for storage of gear on job sites.
An unusal feature of this unit is that the crane is mounted to the front. "We had to do it because we carry all-terrain forklifts that run up ramps at the back of the truck. This makes it fairly heavy on the front axle, so we wanted the lightest crane we could find without losing capacity or versatility - in terms of out specs the Terex/Atlas was the best on the market," Don says. The unit replaces a 20-year old truck and cable crane and Don says the new truck and powerful crane with its wide reach make a welcome change. "NZH has been very helpful sice the commissioning of the crane and were also really happy with the job Piako has done for us," he says.
